She assists undocumented immigrants apply for Medi-Cal, California's Medicaid programme.

California began accepting undocumented children, then 19- to 25-year-olds, then people 50 and older in 2016.

Undocumented adults 26–49 become eligible in January.

State officials and health advocates worry that many of the more than 700,000 newly eligible people may not enlist,,,

either because they are unsure of their eligibility or because calling attention to themselves could lead to deportation.

Lopez assures undocumented residents that Medi-Cal is safe.

Lopez, like the undocumented persons she serves, feared deportation and family separation for years.
