American Idol star and Grammy winner Mandisa found dead at 47, police open investigation

The announcement of Mandisa Lynn Hundley's death was made public on Friday. She was born in Citrus Heights, California.

The Franklin Police Department has launched an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her passing, however a preliminary manner of death was not immediately known.

As a member of the Fisk Jubilee Singers, Mandisa refined her talent while studying at Fisk University in Nashville.

After performing with American Idol winner Taylor Hicks in 2006's fifth season, Mandisa shot to stardom.

After finding success on the show, she began a career in Christian music with the 2007 publication of her debut album, True Beauty.

"Freedom," "It's Christmas," "What if We Were Real," "Out Of the Dark," and "Overcomer" were some of Mandisa's albums. "Overcomer: The Greatest Hits" was the sequel to "Overcomer."

Good Morning, 'Overcomer,' 'Stronger,' and 'My Deliverer' are among her most famous tracks.
