Behind the Scenes: A Look Inside "Parasyte: The Grey"'s Immersive Universe  

With 9.8 million viewing hours this week alone, the most recent Korean series on Netflix has dominated the non-English TV list for two weeks  

The show is called Parasyte: The Grey.   

When a character's head rips apart to show the parasite inside, it's one of the most talked-about scenes in the series.  

Director Yeon Sang-ho concentrated on how the parasite's movements should impact the real world in addition to how they appeared in computer graphics to create a realistic effect.  

Things like hair should move organically as the parasite head passes by.   

We even attempted using strings to pull items

The hardest part was having to keep filming things we couldn't see as if we could," adds Yeon, who has experience designing believable creatures for films like Hellbound, Train, and Busan.  

The Grey is based on Hitoshi Iwaaki's original comic "Parasyte," which achieved sales of over 25 million copies worldwide  

Parasyte: The Grey adds a fresh story in a new setting—Korea—to the "Parasyte" universe.   

"I hope people from all over the world can enjoy and appreciate the fact that different stories are born when "Parasyte" is created in different places on Earth," Iwaaki said in a statement.  

Yeon would demonstrate to the actors how to move their head as the parasite emerged or jolt their body as the infection gained over
