Chris Paul discovered he had been traded to Wizards in text from 14-year-old son

In a text message from his adolescent son, Chris Paul learned that his time in Phoenix had come to an end.

In Sunday's transaction that brought Bradley Beal to the Suns, the 12-time All-Star was sent to the Washington Wizards.

According to the 38-year-old, "my son texts me... when [news of the trade] comes through," as she told the New York Times.

"My wife saw my phone. I was taken aback because, you know, I had a conversation with [Suns general manager] James Jones yesterday or whatever.

Paul brought up the possibility that the transaction was influenced by Isiah Thomas, a former great for the Detroit Pistons and someone close to Suns owner Mat Ishbia.

Who helped the Suns reach the NBA finals in 2020-21? "Mat and Isiah, I guess, just wanted to go in a different direction," Paul remarked.

The fact that no one owes you anything is something you come to terms with, and it's just a part of doing business, he said.

It doesn't matter how you treat people or what you do; the fact is that, as it should be, nobody owes you anything in this industry.
