The Packers are losing one of their offensive line starters and last year's swing tackle in 2024 NFL free agency, highlighting their need for offensive tackle depth.
On March 18, the Panthers signed former Packers offensive tackle Yosh Nijman as a free agent.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that Nijman is signing a two-year, $8 million contract with $5 million guaranteed and a $15 million maximum.
Over four seasons, Packers offensive line player Nijman, 28, went from undrafted practice-squad rookie in 2019 to a versatile role player.
He started 22 of 67 games and played 1,001 left tackle snaps and 587 right tackle snaps. Mostly a swing tackle behind Rasheed Walker and Zach Tom in 2023, he allowed two sacks on 139 pass-blocking snaps.
The Packers might have signed Nijman to an extension in 2024 free agency to add depth after the release of five-time All-Pro David Bakhtiari on March 11.
Instead, Nijman goes to Carolina to back up Ikem Ekwonu and Taylor Moton and safeguard Bryce Young.
The Packers' fourth 2024 free agent, Nijman, has left. Running back Aaron Jones, whom they cut, joined the Minnesota Vikings, while left lineman Jon Runyan Jr. (New York Giants), safeties Darnell Savage Jr. (Jacksonville Jaguars), and Jonathan Owens (Chicago Bears) signed elsewhere in free agency.
