Former Colorado player criticizes Deion Sanders' football program: 'I don't want to play for clicks'

Cormani McClain, a five-star prospect at Colorado last year, is departing Deion Sanders' program and throwing some shots on the way.

McClain, the top-ranked cornerback in this year's high school class, according to 247 Sports, who joined the transfer portal in search of a new collegiate home, recorded a video on YouTube Saturday discussing the Buffaloes' program under Sanders.

"I don't want to play merely for clicks. "I actually want to be involved with a great leading program that will develop players," McClain stated in the video titled "Next Step."

McClain stated that his goal is to "change the narrative surrounding my name and be a part of a real and great program that's going to impact me to the best of my ability."

"Unfortunately, we were not the program that could do it, so I hope he knows that this is his second chance and goes for it - go get it, man, because he has a huge amount of potential. But he needs to want it."

In his seven-round mock draft, Ian Cummings of Pro Football Network believes the Vikings will make a major trade up to obtain their quarterback of the future.

Regarding McClain's comment about not wanting to play for clicks, the Buffaloes created a lot of headlines at the start of the college football season after upsetting then-ranked TCU, a club that had won the national championship the year before, and going 3-0.

Sanders understands how badly the transfer site can deplete a program; 12 players entered before the spring window opened. The Buffaloes' total increased to 26 as 14 more people entered the portal since that window opened.

Sanders has profited from the gateway as well, attracting 86 new participants, 53 of whom

Losing a guy like McClain, with his high ranking, is difficult to accept. With the Pac-12 disbanding for the 2024-25 collegiate season, the Buffaloes will join the Big 12 Conference.
