Jack Leiter struggles in MLB debut as Rangers hold off Tigers

In Thursday's series finale against the Detroit Tigers, the Texas Rangers prevailed despite Jack Leiter's rocky major league debut.

After striking out two in a scoreless first inning, Leiter, who was selected second overall in the 2021 draft and is the son of veteran major league left-hander Al Leiter, had trouble continuing.

Within three and a half innings, the right-hander who threw with great force gave up seven runs on eight hits, while also recording three walks and three strikeouts.

"He was fine," stated Bruce Bochy, manager of the Texas Rangers.

While he struggled to get to his spots in the second inning, he recovered quickly in the third and recorded two quick outs in the fourth before encountering some difficulties.

"A surreal experience" was Leiter's description of his major league debut.

You've been fantasizing about it ever since you were a tiny child. Being a lifelong fan of the game, today is very special.

I have improved, I still have room to grow, and I am determined to keep improving.
