Lainey Wilson on Autobiography, Dolly Parton, and Achieving Success at Her Own Pace

American country music is known for its unrivaled storytelling.

From childhood, country artist Lainey Wilson was surrounded by sound.

As a child in Baskin, Louisiana (population 211), her guitar-playing father introduced her to narrative-driven performers like Buck Owens.

Wilson takes the time to develop as a storyteller and musician in an era where success may appear suddenly thanks to reality programs or TikTok.

Wilson played guitar two years after writing her first song at 9.

She moved to Nashville in 2011, resided in a camper trailer outside a recording studio, signed with a major label in 2018, and broke into the mainstream with her third studio album Sayin' What I'm Thinkin' three years later.

The past year and a half has been a blur.

Last fall, Wilson played Abby in season five of Yellowstone and her fourth album Bell Bottom Country reached the top 10 of Billboard's Top Country Albums chart.
