Nelly Korda takes Chevron, ties LPGA mark with 5th win in row

The Woodlands, Texas Nelly Korda couldn't have envisioned her great run this season when recovering from a blood clot surgery in 2022 at home.

"Because obviously then I was just more scared for my health," stated. "Competition was secondary. I had no intention of competing.

I suppose all my sadness and health problems have made me who I am today."

Finally healthy, Korda seems unstoppable. The world's top player is a two-time major champion after not losing since January.

On Sunday, Korda won her fifth straight tournament with a 2-stroke win at the Chevron Championship.

Only Nancy Lopez (1978) and Annika Sorenstam (2004-05) have won five straight LPGA events. Her last major win was the 2021 Women's PGA Championship.

Korda defeated Swedish Maja Stark, who birdied her final two holes to shoot 69 and get within 1. Korda was bold on the par-5 18th, clearing the water in front of the green for an easy up-and-down birdie.

Korda nearly aced the par-3 17th when her tee ball touched the hole and hopped 10 feet. She took par to preserve her 2-shot lead.
