The NFL punished the 49ers for payroll irregularities in the draft.
The NFC champions will be punished in the NFL Draft owing to accounting irregularities.
In an NFL investigation into payroll issues, the 49ers allegedly misrepresented player salary. Thus, they are hit in the 2024 and 2025 NFL Drafts. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported.
"The 49ers will forfeit their original fifth-round selection in the 2025 Draft
and will have their 2024 fourth-round selection (#131) move to the end of the fourth round, behind the compensatory picks (#135)," he said.
"A league inquiry uncovered administrative payroll accounting mistakes at the end of the 2022 league year that misreported the club's cumulative player payments. The NFL found no intent to evade the salary cap and that the club would have remained within it regardless of the error."
Due to payroll issues, the 49ers will forfeit a 2025 fifth-round pick and a poorer 2024 fourth-round pick.
