NYC jogger's harrowing encounter with Central Park's 'huge' coyote

Over the weekend, while jogging in Central Park, a Big Apple resident was startled by a "giant" coyote and confronted it head-on. Part of this terrifying encounter was captured on camera.

Brett Cohn, who shared video of the encounter on social media, claimed that the fluffy, four-legged animal looked to be roaming by itself on Saturday morning.

The runner told The Post that, after 7 a.m., he was jogging along the 72nd Street Traverse toward The Ramble when he noticed the animal, which didn't exactly appear like a dog. He took a double take.

When Cohn arrived at the spot where the horses typically gather throughout the day, he added, "I looked up and there's like a giant coyote staring right at me."

"I didn't anticipate seeing a coyote," the 33-year-old continued. "At first, I believed it to be an unrestrained dog. However, it's when I noticed that its face resembles that of a wolf or coyote more.

Cohn, an energy industry worker, added, "I looked at it and thought like are my eyes deceiving me?"

Coyotes have been seen in Central Park and other boroughs during the past few years, according to an email from a representative for the New York City Department of Parks.

The official told The Post, "We have no reason to believe this particular coyote is unhealthy or poses a threat to human safety." "But we do advise everyone to avoid close contact and to maintain a safe distance."
