Olivia Munn conceals 'battle wounds' from double mastectomy: 'Makes me a little sad'

Olivia Munn was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago and had a double mastectomy.

Following three operations and reconstruction, the 43-year-old actress told People magazine that she's coming to terms with the "battle wounds" she sees in the mirror.

When Munn appeared on the red carpet for the Vanity Fair Oscars party in March, she had not publicized her diagnosis or rehabilitation process.

"I have some divots and dents on one side of my body near where the lymph nodes were, and they had to really dig out," said Munn. "And I've been wearing some dresses on the red carpet that made me a little stressed out at times."

Munn revealed that her beauty artist, Diane Buzzetta, "learned how to do tattoo-type makeup" before to the Oscars party, which she attended with John Mulaney. Malcolm is the couple's two-year-old son.

"Sometimes I look in the mirror and I think, 'Oh, my hair is so long now, and it's because of this,'" she explained.

"The Newsroom" star continued, "I don't beat myself up for whatever I'm feeling on any given day; I just let myself experience it. That brings a great sense of peace."

"It's different once you actually do the reconstruction, and it's much better, but it's not the same," she told me.

She'll soon begin filming the AppleTV+ sitcom "Your Friends and Neighbors" alongside Jon Hamm, and she says she's returning to work as a "different version" of herself after a cancer diagnosis.

Munn said, "I think I was always able to do it, but it was more difficult because you had to block out all of the outside sounds. But I'm just kinder to myself, so every day is a lot simpler to handle and manage

"In February of 2023, in an effort to be proactive about my health, I took a genetic test that checks you for 90 different cancer genes," Munn stated in an email. "I tested.
