Outlander's Sam Heughan's rom-com disaster has become a Netflix blockbuster.

Starz will go even further back in time with the upcoming prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood began production in Scotland in February 2024, with ten episodes following the parallel love lives of Jamie and Claire Fraser's parents.

Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe appear in Starz's Outlander, which is based on Diana Gabaldon's historical fantasy novel series.

Outlander's first season, consisting of 16 episodes, premiered on Starz in 2014. Based on Diana Gabaldon's 1991 novel of the same name,

Outlander follows World War II medic Claire Randall as she is transported back in time to 18th-century Scotland, where she falls in love with Highlander Jamie Fraser.

In 2022, Gabaldon revealed on her blog that she was working on a prequel novel about Jamie Fraser's parents called "A Bird in the Hand" that would be published after the tenth and final volume in the Outlander series.

She also disclosed that Sony and Starz have taken up a prequel series. Blood of My Blood was formally approved in January 2023.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood does not yet have a release date. The 10-episode series began filming in Scotland in February 2024. Outlander, the historical drama, will return for an eighth and final season, though no premiere date has yet been set.
