Randy Travis' “Forever and Ever, Amen” topped country charts in 1987.

The song was written by Don Schlitz and Paul Overstreet and popularized by Randy Travis. 

 Travis' first single from Always & Forever was “Forever and Ever, Amen”.

After its March 1987 release, the song went to Billboard country charts the following month.

The heartfelt ballad was a hit with fans and critics, peaking at number one on June 13th and staying there for three weeks.

The song earned a Grammy for Best Country and Western Song in 1988 and was named Song of the Year by the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music.

The RIAA certified the song Gold almost 30 years after its release, making it Travis' first solo gold single.

Travis appreciated the song's meaning and message when he was pitched it, and the country music industry did too. Song chorus:
