Ryan Gosling's new film The Fall Guy is slammed for 'distasteful' joke involving Johnny Depp and ex Amber Heard: 'Abuse is not a punchline 

Critics are taking issue with a joke in The Fall Guy, starring Emily Blunt and Ryan Gosling, that makes reference to the tumultuous relationship between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard.  

Early fans have already criticised one line of dialogue for trivialising domestic violence, even though the highly-anticipated action comedy doesn't even in theatres until Friday.  

Hannah Waddingham's character Gail Meyer makes the contentious comment when she says  

"it's like Amber and Johnny were just in here" in reference to a trailer that is in a mess after a fight on set.   

In their brief marriage, which ended in 2016, the 60-year-old Golden Globe winner and the 38-year-old Aquaman actress have both publicly accused the other of various forms of domestic violence and abuse, and the joke was obviously about that.

'I am so disappointed,' one X user said under the line.
