His father started a business specialising in building materials, which evolved into Kering, owner of Gucci and other high-end brands.
Pinault has been involved with Kering and its subsidiaries since 1987.
In 2005, he became CEO of Kering at just 40 years old.
Pinault holds a business degree from HEC and founded his own holding company, Artemis S.A.
Artemis owns Christie's auction house, Vinci construction company, and Château Latour wine estate.
Despite his own successful career, Pinault is often seen supporting Hayek at red carpet events and honours.
