Fans of the DC Universe will be thrilled to learn that Isabela Merced will be playing the legendary Kendra Saunders, better known by her online persona,
Hawkgirl, in James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie.
While promoting Turtles All the Way Down, Merced spoke with Collider's Christina Radish about her excitement about becoming a heroic legend and reunited with Gunn, a director who greatly influenced her early cinematic experiences.
In retrospect, Merced called her casting as Hawkgirl "so cool" and a "full circle moment," referencing her early years of playing with DC action figures, which included Hawkgirl and Hawkman. She went on:
"I grew up in Washington, DC. The action figurines we possessed were so worn out and old that most of the paint had chipped off.
But I was a huge fan of Hawkgirl. I had collected both Hawkgirl and Hawkman.
We also owned Hot Wheels. With those, we just had an incredibly joyful and delightful childhood. Thus, this represents a complete circle."
