Taylor Swift’s Performative Poets Department

American bard and billionaire Taylor Swift references the tale of Cassandra, the Trojan princess who gains the ability to see into the future from the Greek god Apollo in The Tortured Poets Department.

Apollo later curses Cassandra to never be trusted. In the folk-pop song "Cassandra," she sings,

They knew, they knew, they knew the whole time / That I was onto something / The family, the pure greed, the Christian chorus line.

The song is a tribute to taking a risk and alerting people to a mysterious family of religious hypocrites.

Cassandra," one of two songs that appear to discuss Swift and Kim Kardashian's falling out, suggests that the old mystic was beaten up because her predictions enraged the public:

So they killed Cassandra first 'cause she feared the worst / And tried to tell the town." However,

in the legend told in Aeschylus's Agamemnon, the oracle escaped the Troy sack and was subsequently killed by Clytemnestra, the vengeful wife of the tragedy's title character.

For the "Bad Blood" singer, Kanye West's antics with white supremacists and Kardashian's traumatic divorce from the man she burned Swift's friendship for, must feel like a lifelong "I told you so" card.
