The actor David Corenswet from SUPERMAN tried out for Adam Warlock in GOTG Vol. 3, but James Gunn can't recall

David Corenswet's career is expected to soar when he stars as James Gunn's Superman, possibly the most iconic superhero of all time.

Corenswet read for the part of Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but it doesn't seem like he left much of an impression—the director can't recall ever seeing him! Gunn disclosed this.

"I asked him about [his audition] and he said he did so I believe him, but I don’t remember it," A fan asked on Threads if the Man of Steel's flying sections would feature Warlock-style visual effects, to which Gunn replied.

"No, what we’re doing now for flying is much more complex than what was done for Adam Warlock," Gunn replied.

Naturally, he could have played Superman in the DCU as well, but Warlock had a far smaller role, and it's unclear if the character will continue in the MCU.

Though Vol. 3 does hint at a potential sequel starring the new squad (which includes Warlock), we already know Gunn will not be directing and it will likely be some time before Marvel Studios chooses to bring those characters back.

In the caption for the first official image released earlier this year, Gunn wrote, "Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be - coincidentally and unplanned - Superman's birthday."

Originally scheduled to take place in Svalbard, Norway, the filming is thought to have shifted to Atlanta, Georgia. The movie Superman will debut in theaters on July 11, 2025.
