TikTok and Universal Music Group Settle Royalty Dispute

After months of animosity, Universal Music Group and TikTok have announced that they have reached an agreement to restore the label's music to the platform, ending the months-long spat over royalty payments and AI policies.  

The parties to the agreement pledged to provide UMG's songwriters and artists with better compensation, expand options for the promotion and engagement of their recordings and songs  

and provide industry-leading safeguards for generative AI.  

"new monetization opportunities utilising TikTok’s growing e-commerce capabilities and will work together on campaigns supporting UMG’s artists across genres and territories globally.  

The return of UMG’s music to the site is quick in coming, and the firms will collaborate to realise this.  

Lucian Grainge, chairman and CEO of UMG, stated, "This new chapter in our relationship with TikTok focuses on the value of music,  

the primacy of human artistry and the welfare of the creative community." A statement was made by Grainge regarding the app.   

Our goal is to work together with TikTok to support our artists and songwriters, increase social music monetization, and drive innovation in fan engagement," the company said.
