Why Zendaya is nervous for 'Challengers' to come out: 'I wish I was joking'

The most ambitious film of Zendaya's career thus far, Challengers, is about to be served.

Playing tennis prodigy Tashi Donaldson in Luca Guadagnino's sizzling thriller (in theaters April 26) is making the young actress nervouser than ever.

She has experience playing in huge blockbuster films, such as Dune: Part Two, which came out two months ago.

"I always am nervous — I wish I was joking, Zendaya tells Entertainment Weekly.

From a personal standpoint, I've never directed a film before, so I've experienced the first pressure, fear, burden, or whatever you want to call it, to create something of which I can be proud and which I also love doing,

which may be challenging at times.

Challengers follows Zendaya's character, Tashi, as she navigates the challenges of coaching after a terrible injury ends her tennis career.

Tashi was an incredibly brilliant player who was destined for great things.
